Let the gaming news begin!
EA has announced that the release date for the latest installment for the Need For Speed series is November 19th, for both current and Next-Gen consoles and on PC. In describing the game, EA has stated quote: “Need for Speed Rivals puts gamers behind the wheel of both sides of the law, daring them to cross the line as either a cop or racer in order to gain any advantage in the street’s ultimate rivalry. Players will choose between two distinct career experiences, each with their own set of high-stakes challenges, rewards, pursuit tech and cars. The intensity of the action is at an all-time high thanks to AllDrive, a revolutionary new feature that destroys the line between single player, co-op and multiplayer. Through AllDrive, friends will be seamlessly connected to one racing world where their races and chases can collide at any time, creating the ultimate edge-of-your seat experience.” So racing fans, are you more the Need For Speed type, or will you be picking up Forza?
Along with a new trailer, titled “Freedom Cry”, Ubisoft has also announced a Season Pass deal for Assassin’s Creed 4. The season pass will include a new Single Play campaign mission featuring Adewale, a man who was forced in to slavery and now serves as Edward Kenny’s 2nd in command, more missions, weapons, and multiplayer characters, and a Kraken Ship Pack, all for a 20% Discount. Unfortunately, the DLC will NOT be available for Wii U. Assassin’s Creed 4 is due out October 24th on current gen consoles and PC, and will be released for next gen consoles later.
Vault Hunters! Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition has been released! For the price of $59.99 you receive the game itself along with all the additional content that has been released thus far which includes:

TellTale games, the studio who brought us the Walking Dead game series, has released the first episode for The Wolf Among Us, an episodic gaming experience based on the comic book series “Fables”. The story takes place in a Noir style city where the characters from fairy tales have crossed over in to the real world. Player will take the role of “Bigsby”, the Big Bad Wolf who has been appointed as the Sheriff of Fabletown. As with the Walking Dead series, player’s choices will ripple through future episodes, affecting the plot in unforeseen ways. The first episode, “Faith”, is available now for download.
In GTA news, we’ve got two stories to pick up on. First, it has been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records that GTA V pretty damn epic! On Tuesday, October 8th it was announced that GTA V now has claimed 7 World Records, including:
1. Best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours
2. Best-selling videogame in 24 hours
3. Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion
4. Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion
5. Highest grossing videogame in 24 hours
6. Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours
7. Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame.
And THAT is how you release a game like a RockStar! (wink)
Second, for those of you who have had issues playing Multiplayer, Rockstar understands and apologizes. As a peace offering for their fans, they have announced that they will be issues a “Half Million Dollar Stimulus Package” this month. From the blog post on the Rockstar Website:
“In order to keep the current worldwide in-game economy balanced, we will be providing this GTA$ to players via two deposits of $250,000. We will announce specific dates as soon as possible, but are currently hoping to be able to make the first deposit by the end of next week (after we’ve confirmed that issues causing game progress loss have been fixed) with the second installment to happen by the end of the month. For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet.”
In Xbox News, we have another double dose of info. First, Popular Mechanics has released its list of the Top 10 Breakthrough Products of 2013, with the Xbox One coming in at Number 9, mostly for its advancement with the Kinect Camera. From the article, quote:
“Some products are evolutionary, others are revolutionary. The Xbox One is both. The most notable improvement is the new Kinect sensor, which is integral to the operation of the console. It can see in total darkness, track the fine movements of your hands and muscles, and even sense your heartbeat. Gamers may have taken issue with the Xbox One’s price ($500) and paywall restrictions (some features require a $50 per year subscription), but technologically it’s a huge upgrade from its predecessor.”
As someone who has grown up reading Popular Mechanics and Popular Science, I can assure you that this is quite the honor!
Second, it was announced that Xbox One will record your achievements. It has already be stated that the console’s DVR will keep a rolling record of the last 5min of gameplay, but it was recently discussed that the console can automatically record when you unlock achievements and increase your gamer score so that you may view the moment again and share with your friends. Also, you can initiate that sequence with the voice command, “Xbox Record That” and it will save the previous moments for future viewing and editing. I don’t know about you, but if these features make it in to the final design I may have to start compiling footage for my own highlight reels!
And Finally, a bit of philanthropy coming out of the gaming world. The awesome people of Destiny Community being spear-headed by the Destiny fan site Guardian Radio, have put together a fundraising page on Extra-Life.org. All money donated will directly benefit the Seattle Children’s Hospital, the same hospital that Bungie themselves support. For more information, go to www.extra-life.org and search for “Destiny Community”. I’ve already made my donation, now it’s your turn to show these kids you care.
