Ranters! It is November 4th, 2013. For Sports Rants Gaming, I am Anthony Rossi, aka Hyp3rSint4x from the Coffee and Cornchips gaming blog with the C3 WiR(e), a week in review recap of the gaming world. This week’s headlines include:
- South Park: The Stick of Truth gets delayed!
- Eidos stated as a possible studio to develop the next Final Fantasy
- Can Jonathan Ross help change the thinking at Xbox?
- Halo: Spartan Assault to come to Xbox 360 and Xbox One
- New Call of Duty Mode lets you take on Aliens
Let the gaming news begin!
Not long after it was announced with much celebration that South Park: The Stick of Truth got a release date, we are now with the news that it has been delayed. Initially, the game was due out this December, but now publisher Ubisoft has pushed it back to next March. Ubisoft is also the studio involved the recently delayed games Watch_Dogs and The Crew. What’s going on over there? In the meantime, Ubisoft has released a 7 minute gameplay trailer to keep us informed on the game’s progress.
Final Fantasy is a game series that I have personally grown up with, my all time favorite being 6 from back in the SNES days. In recent years, it would be fair to say that for whatever reason, the quality of the series has been slipping. This is not to say that the series doesn’t have the most stunning visuals and cinematics in any game series. In a recent article from OXM, it was mentioned that Square would be open to the idea of handing the series over to Eidos if they could get the right people to do it. Eidos is the developer behind the likes of Tomb Raider and Deus Ex, both of which are quality franchises. How they would be able to take on such a deeply Japanese game and make it their own could either be extremely interesting or an absolute disaster.
Xbox, still fending off criticism from the initial Xbox One release details, brings aboard Jonathan Ross, British TV and Radio presenter, to help “Change the Thinking” around the Xbox camp. Lee Schuneman, of Microsoft London stated “We thought we should try and find someone who can think about gaming, TV, technology and toys and bring all that together,”. Jonathan will be taking on a part-time consultant role to help Microsoft rethink how they create and develop games. Hey, after the departure of Don Mattrick and the damage control scrambling after E3, it’s obvious that they need to switch something up. Let’s see how this plays out.
Fans of the Halo series may have felt a bit shafted by the release of Halo: Spartan Assualt only being released on mobile devices. Console gamers, lament no more! It was announced that Spartan Assault will be coming to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One! As of right now, the games are due out in December.
Now complete with a trailer, Call Of Duty: Ghosts will be getting an additional play mode, called “Extinction”. The main opponent here? Aliens, and lots of them! Here, Players will team up to take out hives of these intergalactic beasties with all the glory that comes with a COD game. Community Manager Dan Amrich posted a confirmation of this mode, describing it as “an all-new 1-4 player cooperative game mode featuring a unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging and class leveling,”
