Ranters! It is November 11th, 2013. For Sports Rants Gaming, I am Anthony Rossi, aka Hyp3rSint4x from the Coffee and Cornchips gaming blog with the C3 WiR(e), a week in review recap of the gaming world. This week’s headlines include:
- Classic board game RISK now has a Mass Effect edition!
- Rambo the video game now has a trailer
- Need for Speed: Rivals now a PS4 Launch title
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut has launched!
- Valve gives some updates for their Steam Machines
- Call of Duty: Ghosts takes in $1B in day one sales
Let the gaming news begin!
Back in February, it was announced that the classic strategy boardgame RISK was going to receive a Mass Effect Edition. The official launch announcement has finally arrived! From the item description page on the Bioware Store, “Led by Commander Shepard, a rag-tag army of the best and brightest soldiers in the galaxy is marshaled against the Reapers to ensure the light of civilization never goes dark. Choose one of three factions, each with its own victory conditions, to battle for the fate of the universe.” The three playable races will include Alliance, Cerberus, and of course REAPERS! The cost for the game is $50.00, with an estimated ship date of November 18th. “I am Hyp3r Sint4x, and this is my favorite version of Risk!”
Rambo: The Video Game, yes, that’s it’s official title, now has a trailer. In it, you see good ol’ John Rambo unloading plenty of lead while reenacting several of his classic movie moments. This game is due out on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Preorder now for an exclusive limited edition figurine! Yes, this game looks as horribly awesome as it sounds.
Originally set to be released on November 22nd, coinciding with the launch for the Xbox One, Need For Speed: Rivals will now be available at Launch for the PS4 as well. This news definitely helps out Sony, since both Watch_Dogs and Drive Club were pushed back in to 2014.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution was an absolutely fantastic game set in a futuristic dystopian Detroit. This past week, the Director’s Cut was released. In it, a few changes and updates have been made, including updated capabilities with touchscreen devices, Reimagined Boss Fights, improved game mechanics, and it also includes all available DLC. So, are you ready to head back to the Detroit to preserve your humanity?
The first prototype of a Steam Machine has been revealed! Later this year, Valve will be sending out this prototype to 300 beta testers for evaluation, and the specs on it look pretty intense. However, from a statement from Valve, it looks like not all testers will be receiving the same hardware. Depending on the box they receive, testers could be working with a variety of different capabilities. Head over to the Valve webpage for more details on that. Also in Steam Machine news, it was announced that Valve themselves will be handling the manufacturing of Steam controllers. I see this not so much as Steam trying to keep a grip on control, but more for continuity during the development phase. I’m all for everyone making their own take on possible console designs, but from an evaluation standpoint it will be nice to have some kind of basis of comparison.
Remember when I got all gushy over the numbers for GTA V, and how they broke 7 world records? Rockstar was able to accomplish this feat in 3 days, which is damn impressive. Last week, as I’m sure every gamer in existence knows, Call of Duty Ghosts was released on current gen, and they were able to hit that milestone on day 1! Keep in mind, this game is also coming out for Next Gen as well, and I’m sure there are people who are waiting for their new system before picking up this game. That means that COD could’ve gotten even MORE cash for day one sales. For those of you keeping track, that’s 2 different game releases over the course of 2 months that have generated over $2 Billion in sales. You guys realize that this kind of capital is comparable to the GDP of some countries, right? Video Games, the new global economic engine!
