Ranters! It is November 18th, 2013. For Sports Rants Gaming, I am Anthony Rossi, aka Hyp3rSint4x from the Coffee and Cornchips gaming blog with the C3 WiR(e), a week in review recap of the gaming world. This week’s headlines include:
- Thief Developers drop Quick Time Events
- Ubisoft attempts to reignite JRPGs with Child of Light
- A 30min gameplay trailer of Dragon Age 3 gets leaked
- Southpark spoofs the coming Black Friday Console War
Let the gaming news begin!
Love’em or Hate’em, Quick Time Events have made their way in to modern gaming. Those on the internet who hate them have no problem making themselves known, particularly with the upcoming Xbox One game, Ryse: Son of Rome. In a blog post by Eidos Montreal, it was revealed that they are removing them from the upcoming Thief reboot. Citing that even though in the hour long E3 demo there was only one instance, there was enough internet backlash for them to remove the feature entirely.
Ubisoft last week revealed a brief gameplay trailer for a new game titled “Child of Light”, a game which they hope will reignite the JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Game) genre in the states. In this game, you play as Aurora, a young red-headed girl with a sword and a kind of spirit orb companion. The game is set up as almost a side-scroller, which transitions to turn-based battles when enemies are encountered. Players are encouraged to utilize cleverness, not just dexterity and might to win battles. The game is being designed to be very artistic, as well. In the demo, the world was presented as a watercolor painting, and it is also stated that the dialogue is designed to be an epic ballad, with every 2nd and 4th line rhyming. What a refreshing change of artistic pace from the usual high octane explosion fest in gaming!
Last week, a 30min gameplay trailer for Dragon Age 3 was leaked on NeoGaf, and now it is here for everyone to enjoy! The original footage was shown at Pax: Seattle a few months ago, and is now make it’s rounds across the web. Obviously, it looks great. I was a big fan of Dragon Age: Origins, and while I wasn’t a huge fan of Dragon Age 2, I thought the backlash to it was a little excessive. Many familiar elements will be continued on, such as the radial menus and dynamic mission choices affecting the plotline. Oh, and we also see Varric and his beloved Bianca in hand as well.
Ofcourse South Park, staying relevant after all these years, never shy away from poking fun at the blatant silliness today’s society. In an episode last week, they took their turn at creating their own rendition of the coming console war raging between….ya know what? Stop the music! Alright, listen you self-righteous, neo-noob jack-wads! I’m really getting tired of this self-imposed Console “War” that’s been getting gamer’s undies all in a twist! Stop it! Enough with the overly opinionated nerds and d-bag bro’s in an internet war hiding behind their computer screens regurgitating profanity laden advertisement rhetoric while citing system specs that no one truly cares about, and even fewer would be able to tell the difference between. How many of you kids can even tell the difference between 720p and 1080i? Do you even know what the “P” or “I” stands for? Stop with the flame strikes against each other that ultimately only brings down the gaming scene as a whole and reinforces the childish, tantrum-thowing, self-entitled, no-control stereo-type of gamers that some of us are desperately trying to move beyond! Play your damn game on what which ever platform you choose. And YES, PC MASTER RACE, WE KNOW YOUR SYSTEM IS BETTER!!!!
Ya, that’s how I feel about the console “war”. Play the pre-recorded outro track, I’m done…
PS, yes, I realize that I just went on a rant demonstrating the exact behavior that I’m denouncing. It’s just that I’m so sick of people on the net giving nothing more than the typical mud-throwing banter that we see in today’s political circus and reinforcing the “ALL OR NOTHING!!!” or “IF YOU’RE NOT WITH US YOU’RE AGAINST US!!” kind of attitude that does nothing except hurt everyone and everything. Seriously guys, play on whatever platform you want, as long as you enjoy the game. As Russel Crowe once said, “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!?” OK, totally out of context, but damnit you know what I’m trying to say!!!
