Let the Gaming News Begin!
Telltale Games have announced plans to expand their episodic gaming content. Following up on their success with the Walking Dead series and A Wolf Among Us, they have announced that they will also be dipping in to the worlds of Borderlands and Game of Thrones. I am personally a pretty big fan of the Borderlands series, so I’ll be sure to pay particularly close attention to that one. Both new series have trailers up that give you a quick glimpse in to what they have planned.
On Christmas Eve, Xbox will release Halo: Spartan Assault for the Xbox One console. For those who did NOT play this on their windows phone, here’s how it works: It’s a top down shooter which makes use of the two thumbsticks, similar to that of the old Super Smash TV days, and depicts the events between Halos 3 and 4. Price for the download is $14.99, unless you purchased already for your windows phone in which case it is a $4.99 upgrades. The perfect little family bonding game for when your brother comes home for the holidays!
Recently, Sony applied for a patent which included a sketch that appears to be a next-gen variant for their Move Controller. Full disclosure: I am an Xbox gamer. From my perspective, I’m a bit unsure on how well this will be received. The community in general typically groans when they are required to purchase additional peripherals. In this case, gamers will have to purchase both the new PS Camera and Move Controller for it to be functional. Granted, players are not FORCED to purchase the additional components, as such with the Xbox One, but it also seems to be a bit on the “Nickle and Diming” side. For my Playstation gamers out there, what are your thoughts?
On April 4th of 2014, PC players will be able to take their MMO Gaming to Cyrodil. From the PvP trailer, it looks like we’ll be competing for the “Ruby Throne”. Worth noting is that there is plenty of action going on in the trailer, complete with the full siege of fortress whose walls come crashing down. Elder Scrolls online will be made available to Xbox and PS4 in June.
In Thief news this week, we hear about a companion app. From the Game Informer article, Quote:
The app comes in two flavors: free and the full version ($2.99). The free one gives you access to trailers, artwork, screens, news, character bios, and the game’s story. The paid version lets you track your in-game stats and stolen goods; and has a wiki, interactive maps, the first two issues of the comic by Dark Horse, exclusive art, and access to merch for the game.
Also announced for Thief are the difficulty settings, including 13 customizable settings to increase the difficulty in specific ways. For instance Chapter Saves only, No consumable resources, and even an Iron Man setting which is the equivalent to Hardcore mode in Diablo, meaning if you die or fail a mission, your save data is erased and you must restart the ENTIRE GAME! Good luck!
Let the great reveals begin! As promised, Valve has since begun sending out prototypes of the Steam Machines to select beta testers. Some pics have been surfacing on Reddit, and Youtuber Corey Nelson has given us the first unofficial unboxing vid. The most notable thing about this unboxing vid is the box that the console actually comes in. It’s basically a big wooden crate, complete with what looks like spraypaint stenciling on the top! I’ve embedded the vid in to my blog post for everyone’s viewing pleasure.
The survior2299 site may have been a hoax, this isn’t! Bethesda is working on what seems to be a new Fallout Game! In documents leaked to Kotaku, we have scripts sent out to for Voice Over casting calls for a project code-named “The Institute”. With other information included, it seems that the next game in the series will be set in Boston, with “The Institute” being the post-apocalyptic version of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT. Head over to my blog for a full rundown of what else I can deduce from this news, and what things I expect and hope to see. Also interesting is that it seems as though they are having the voice of the player quote the lines “War, War never changes” which has been traditionally done by Ron Perlman. I mean, c’mon, it’s not like he’s going to be busy with Sons of Anarchy any more. OHHH!!!
